Lifeview homes are designed to help people live active lives with plenty of social activities and community involvement. This, coupled with our exceptional care and warm, welcoming environment, is what Lifeview is all about.

Our dynamic leadership team, led by Executive Director, Peter Reilly OAM, and CEO Samantha Jewell, is committed to providing a level of service that is a world away from the "traditional nursing home model".

Lifeview History

The homes have been in operation since the 1990s. September 2011 saw the birth of Lifeview, with all homes operating under the Lifeview banner.

We are Australian owned and operated and we offer permanent, respite and palliative care.

Lifeview homes are located from the sea to the hills in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs of Chelsea, Emerald, Cranbourne and Wheelers Hill. We have new developments under way in Prahran and Brighton East.

Our welcoming homes have an intimate feel and residents enjoy an active social calendar, excellence in hospitality and the very best standard of care.

All Lifeview homes offer single rooms with en suite and are pet-friendly.

Lifeview is Rainbow Tick accredited.

Lifeview’s delivery of residential aged care reflects contemporary international and Australian-best practice models of holistic, person-centred care promoting quality of life, health, wellbeing, inclusion and the independence of each individual resident, including those living with dementia, mental illness or other complex conditions.

From the executive management team to frontline staff, Lifeview employs for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) diversity, bringing valuable cultural knowledge and language skills to each home.

Social inclusion is integral to Lifeview’s principles, policy and practice. Our approach to engaging with and caring for residents who may experience social, financial or cultural isolation or disadvantage in accessing appropriate residential aged care aligns with Australian better practice articulated in current national strategies, such as the National Ageing and Aged Care Strategy for People from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) Backgrounds and the National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) Ageing and Aged Care Strategy, (DoHA 2012).

Upon admission and at least quarterly, Lifeview consults all residents and families to tailor care and support to everyone’s cultural and spiritual values.

Our culture, policies and practices ensure all homes are inclusive of LGBTI residents, staff and volunteers. We do not just claim to be inclusive we are proudly Rainbow Tick accredited and have been since 2016.  Lifeview is home and a workplace to many residents and staff who identify as LGBTIQ+.

Lifeview is building an innovative new aged care living home specifically for the LGBTIQ+ community and friends in Prahran – Lifeview Marigold.

Each year, in May, Lifeview celebrates the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) at all homes and the corporate office. This day is embraced wholeheartedly by residents and staff alike.  We are a founding partner of the Victorian Pride Centre, participate in the Midsumma Carnival and proudly march as one, each year at the Pride March.

Innovation

Many aged care providers claim to be innovative but what are they doing to back this up?

At Lifeview we not only proudly say we are innovative but back this up with collaborations, developments and investments in new technologies.

We know innovation and new technology is key to providing the best quality of life for older people and a sustainable aged care system into the future.

We have a reputation for doing things differently, for challenging the norm and for putting residents first. Our Advisory Board and Executive support research activities, partnerships with innovators and real life testing of new technologies.

We are fortunate to have longstanding relationships and collaborative partnerships with research and support institutions such as Dementia Australia, NARI and LASA, to develop cutting-edge, integrated solutions to support aged care innovation.

Our homes, staff and residents participate in pilot programs and projects to ensure innovations and technology have the desired outcomes for all. By testing innovations with real people who stand to benefit directly from new technology, we know that we are creating a future aged care sector that has been co-designed and developed by those with the most to gain – residents and staff.

As important as technology is, it will never replace the importance of the human touch of caring. But it can improve and augment the care we provide.

A key part of our Strategic Plan is to disrupt through innovation. Lifeview’s agility enables us to adopt and implement new concepts. Through continued research and investment in leading edge technologies, we achieve efficiencies and enhance opportunities and experiences.

Some of the key projects we have been integral in include:

  • Working with Dementia Australia to fund and test the development of, The Virtual Forrest and the A Better Visit app.
  • Developing, trialling and rolling-out our very own award-winning, relationship-based model of care Home2Home (H2H).
  • Working with Dementia Australia and Deakin University to test the effectiveness of the training Avatar, Talk with Ted.
  • Partnering with PainChek to pilot the PainChek app and test is effectiveness in an aged care setting.
  • Investing in the Simavita’s Smart Incontinence Management (SIM™) technology.
  • Partnering with Echocare Technologies to bring to Australia and New Zealand the ECHO AI monitoring system.
  • Trialling and implementing a Pharmacy in the Home program.

There are many ways to measure Lifeview's success in achieving industry best standards, but receiving awards judged by our industry peers gives us the most pride.

Lifeview has received numerous awards for innovation, lifestyle programming, volunteering and employee development including.
2015/2016 Large Provider of the Year

Recognising one large provider (over 100 employees) who demonstrates leadership, innovation and excellence in service delivery.

A leader in person-centred care Lifeview received this award for its focus on resident wellbeing and quality of life through best practice lifestyle programming. Also recognised was Lifeview's partnership with Alzheimer's Australia Vic, the resident Magic Moments program and the company's leading LGBTI inclusion and development initiatives.

Roger Neal – Lifeview Emerald Glades

Recognising a individual who generously volunteers their time to enhance the health outcomes and wellbeing of older Victorians.

Roger has been a valued Lifeview volunteer at Emerald Glades since February 2012. During this time, Roger has proven himself to be an exceptionally willing and accommodating person, who is “never too busy to lend a hand.” Roger established the Men's Shed in 2012 and it quickly became the most popular social gathering for male residents at the home.

2013 Better Practice Award – Resident Lifestyle

Australian Aged Care Quality Agency, recognised Lifeview for excelling in resident lifestyle by awarding the organisation the coveted 2013 Better Practice Award for Resident Lifestyle.

The award was presented to Lifeview in the category of Resident Lifestyle for the annual PAC (Positive Ageing Celebration) Event. Formed from an innovative concept, the PAC Event demonstrates improvement and innovation and brings enjoyment to residents. The event also embraces the diversity of resident interests and abilities, and gives them an opportunity to live their possibilities.

Partnerships

Lifeview invests in research and staff professional development to support the uptake of Australian and international best practice and innovation in residential aged care.

Lifeview co-funds the Australian Centre for Health Research and proactively engages in research to identify better practices, including study tours and partnering with best practice leaders such as Dementia Australia and the Victorian Pride Centre.

Lifeview is a member of industry body ACCPA (Aged and Community Care Providers Association) and actively participates in industry conferences.

Dementia Australia

Lifeview and Dementia Australia have a proud history of partnering across various projects.

In 2014 they delivered the Virtual Forest – a sensory therapy designed to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia by using videogame technology.

Lifeview staff have also been provided with specialist dementia training as part of Lifeview’s ongoing partnership with Dementia Australia.

In 2023, Lifeview, Dementia Australia and the Victorian Pride Centre partnered to deliver the Memory Lane Café – Victorian Pride Centre initiative.

Victorian Pride Centre

Lifeview is a Foundation Partner of the Victorian Pride Centre. The partnership sees Lifeview contribute funds in addition to essential resources for older LGBTIQ+ people. Lifeview provides educational resources related to aged care and works closely with Pride Centre on several important projects. Lifeview, Dementia Australia and Victorian Pride Centre collaborate to deliver a specialist Memory Lane Café support program for those living with dementia and their chosen family at the Pride Centre.

Companion Animal Network Australia (CANA)

Lifeview works closely with Companion Animal Network Australia (CANA) to help promote and educate other organisations - and the wider public - about the value of pets in aged care.

Lifeview homes are all proudly pet-friendly, with new residents encouraged to move in with their beloved pet. Staff are also encouraged to bring their pet to work occasionally to engage with residents and fellow staff.
